Samantha Lindo & The Murmuration Choir // Finally Free (Live at Bristol Beacon)

'Finally Free' is about heart-break and the bitter-sweet struggle for freedom. At her great-grandfather Eric's funeral in Jamaica, a young man approached his widow: "You don't know me", he said, "but I am your husband's son". Her beloved Eric had secretly raised and educated a child outside of wedlock for decades. Although integrated into the family and well loved from then on, this narrates the emotional story of the women involved. It draws on the more complex, addictive nature of relationships, paralleling Jamaica's history with sugar and hinting at ways those things have reverberated, generations on. This performance was recorded Samantha's show at the Bristol Beacon in April 2024, along with the Murmuration Choir on backing vocals and Alex Veitch on keys. Samantha's next performance will be a stripped back affair, showcasing the piano and vocals arrangements of her album, at the Glass Room at the prestigious St George's Bristol at 2pm on Saturday 16th of November. She will be launching the 'Lightime Music' programme; a brand new series of relaxed daylight gigs that aim to give those with busy schedules or limited access a chance to hear artists in an intimate, informal setting before the chaotic bedtime rush. Everyone, including children, are welcome. Tickets are available here: https://www.stgeorgesbristol.co.uk/whats-on/lightime-music-samantha-lindo/ Credits Videography - Lizzi Goldsack. Sound - Medd Rann and Doug Cave. With thanks to Arts Council England and Bristol Beacon.
